RENOVATION AND EXPANSION
OF EXISTING OFFICE
BUILDINGS
Over a period of 40+ years, this prominent South Texas
law firm expanded their facility numerous times. They
ultimately reached a decision point where they could
not expand further without either a major remodeling/expansion or
a move to a new location. KRHA performed a study to determine
the feasibility of remaining at the current location.
This resulted in a total remodeling of the facility
and a new infill atrium structure which became the hub
for the
entire facility.
The gabled clerestory provides the atrium addition with
an abundance of natural light. The materials and design
reflect the indigenous character of South Texas architecture.
Careful phasing of construction and renovation allowed
office operations to continue uninterrupted.
This project garnered a national design award in the Law
Office Design Competition of ABA Journal in the
category of Adaptive Re-Use, Restoration or Historic
Preservation category. It was also featured in a
cover story of Texas Lawyer. |
